FreshByte Celebrates 35th Year at Global Produce & Floral Show

A lot has happened in the tech world since 1980 when floppy disks held a “whopping” 360 kilobytes and a mouse in your office resulted in a call to a pest company as the now ubiquitous computer accessory wouldn’t go mainstream until four years later with the release of the Apple Macintosh.

From the 16-bit microprocessors with about 29,000 transistors to today’s 64-bit multi-core powerhouses with billions of transistors, just about everything has changed.

One constant, however, has FreshByte Software’s attendance at the Produce Marketing Association’s (now the International Fresh Produce Association after a merger with United Fresh) annual produce and floral show.

Produce and Floral Trade Show Roots Date Back to 1949

This month’s Global Produce and Floral Show can trace its roots back to 1949 with the founding of the Produce Prepackaging Association, later renamed the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) in 1970.

 A Floral Marketing Division was formed in 1974 to serve the floral industry. 

The annual PMA Fresh Summit International Convention & Exposition was the key event for the industry from 1949 to 2021.

After the merger with United Fresh Produce Association in 2022, the newly minted IFPA launched the Global Produce and Floral Show.

“The Global Produce & Floral Show is not a new name for a familiar event,” said IFPA CEO Cathy Burns in 2022. “When we brought together the two most influential associations for our industry to create a new organization, it wasn’t just about doing more, it was about transforming the industry.  The Global Produce & Floral Show will be the epicenter of industry innovation and connection, and will be where our industry voice is galvanized to take on the challenges we face and take up the opportunities ahead of us.”

IFPA Expects 1,000+ Exhibitors, 20,000+ Attendees

IFPA estimates that the 2025 Global Produce & Floral Show will feature:

  • 20,000+ attendees including grower-shippers, suppliers, brokers, supermarket, wholesalers, floral, foodservice and more.
  • 1,000+ exhibitors including produce, floral, complementary items, packaging, technology, and more.
  • Attendees from 70 countries and all 50 U.S. states.
  • Over 5,000+ decision-makers with buying power.
  • 82 percent of attendees directly influence the purchasing process.

Beyond the floor, the Global Produce & Floral Show will include networking meals, community receptions, keynote speakers, and an education festival.
